Benefit Specialist - International Shipholding Corporation

International Shipholding Corporation (ISC), founded in 1947, through its subsidiaries is engaged in ocean and inland waterborne freight transportation through the world.  Our offices are currently located in Mobile, New York and Singapore and we maintain a network of marketing agents in major cities worldwide. We are seeking a Benefit Specialist to administer various employee benefit programs, including: single employer group medical and dental, accident and disability, life insurance, pensions, 401(k), and savings plans.  Assist employees with benefits, maintain employee database, supplement payroll, manage all insurance billings and maintain employee files.  Supports government compliance and reporting with respect to all benefit programs.

Benefits Specialist daily job responsibilities

•    Maintaining employee benefits information in HRIS system
•    Processing enrollment forms for benefit plans for employees
•    Reconcile monthly invoices for benefit plans
•    Administering pension and retirement plans
•    Regulatory compliance reporting, including Form 5500s
•    Administering FMLA/ LOA Program
•    Building positive relationships with employees and vendors

Requirements

Benefits Specialist will be a human resources professional with:
•    Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or combination of related experience and education
•    2 to 5 years of related benefits administration experience working with health and welfare benefit plans and, pension and 401(k) retirement plans.
•    Demonstrated attention to detail, and ability to analyze issues and suggest solutions
•    Well developed written and verbal communication skills
•    Good experience with MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
•    Experience with HRIS/ data collection is required, LAWSON ERP experience a plus
