The New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl (WHO DAT!), sorry, and it snows in Mobile, all in the same week and who said things are not exciting this time of year! The weather is still cold and we are now in the Lenten season, but, be patient St. Patrick’s Day, warmer weather and the Easter bunny are all on the way to usher in yet another beautiful Spring on the Gulf Coast.

This coming week is going to be a very exciting week for everyone in our area. Mardi Gras parades have started rolling, beads and moonpies are flying, the WHO DAT nation is in a Super Bowl frenzy, and Valentines Day is romantically approaching.
Even with all the activities you have planned, don’t miss the most significant one of all, the Mobile SHRM meeting next Friday!! Our sponsor, Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union, is going to have a Mardi Gras theme with music, beads and doorprizes. I hope you will find time and join the celebration and network with all our members!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, but safe, New Year!!
Just as you have made your new year’s resolutions and eaten your black-eyed peas for good luck, so have all of your Mobile SHRM Board of Directors.
It is an honor and a privilege for me to serve as your President for 2010 and I feel we have some very exciting ideas that you will see materialize this year.
Emeril is well known for “kickin it up a notch” with BAM! Our mission for 2010 is VAM! Our goal is to provide all of you with “Value Added Membership (VAM)”. This is the criteria that each Board member will approach their roles with this year—how can I increase the value of Mobile SHRM to each of our members?

Dear Mobile SHRM Members,
It’s already December… Another year has come and gone leaving us to contemplate what more 2010 could bring in the way of challenges and changes within our economy, our government, and our organizations. Mercifully there appears to be a light at the end of this long tunnel we’ve all been traveling through; albeit a dim light, but a light nonetheless. As a Mobile SHRM chapter member I hope you’ve felt you could lean on one another for support and reach out for assistance with some of the challenges you’ve experienced in your companies. In my opinion, that’s the most valuable benefit of actively participating in our chapter. Stay close, stay active, and stay in touch!

Dear Mobile SHRM Members,
Conference planning is winding down and it’s time for the event! We hope you are as happy with the final product as we are. Special thanks to our conference committee for all of your hard work and tireless attention to detail. Renee Sorensen has led a splendid team of committee members through months of planning meetings with the tenacity of a true leader.
My hat’s off to the team!
Dear Mobile SHRM Members,
Ahhh, Fall is in the air, can’t you feel it? It’s always a refreshing time of year following the heat of summer here on the Gulf Coast. It also signals the arrival of Mobile SHRM’s Gulf Coast Human Resource Conference. I hope you’re paying attention to the fact that November 13th is seriously close. Remember that the conference will take the place of our November chapter meeting.
At our next chapter meeting we will vote on the slate of nominees for various 2010 chapter leadership positions. The following are nominated for your approval, with OPEN positions available or TBD:
Dear Mobile SHRM Members,
We’ve finally been successful in lining up Dr. Treena Gillespie Finney to speak to our chapter. This has been a goal of ours for over a year. Treena’s busy teaching schedule and our chapter conflicts kept getting in the way. I’ve been looking forward to hearing her presentation and gaining insight from her expertise in performance management. I hope you will make the extra effort to meet with us for breakfast at 7:00 next Friday morning to be present for Treena’s HRCI recertification-approved session. Jeanine Wilson will have certificates available for those of you who are looking for recertification credits.
Dear Mobile SHRM Members,
It’s “backtoschool” time! Has this year gone by as fast for you as it has for me? I refuse to think it’s my age…it must be the earth’s rotation gaining speed or the planets are lining up funky. It couldn’t be that we’re just so busy in our jobs that time gets away from us, could it?
Dear Mobile SHRM Members,
I was able to attend SHRM’s Annual Conference this week. What an awesome experience! There was an extensive line up of sessions containing valuable HR information. The choices were bountiful and each session I attended was stimulating and informative. I’m grateful for the knowledge as well as the recertification credits I received. If you missed the conference this year I recommend adding it into your budget for next year. You won’t be sorry.
